Augochlora is a brilliant green-gold genus of bees, one of three in the tribe Augochlorini from eastern North America. In our region, there is only one species in this genus Augochlora pura, and it is common and widespread, likely producing multiple generations per year. Although they nest in wood, excavating cavities in fallen, rotting logs, they can be found in all but the most urban settings. Augochlora can be told from similar-colored Augochlorella and Augochloropsis in the field, but ID is often made easier with good photographs – visit the species page for Augochlora pura for more notes on identification!
